Google Analytics Experts / Consultants

Need a hand implementing, configuring, or using Google Analytics? A Google Analytics expert can help you out, and it probably costs less than you thought. Well, at least it costs a whole hell of a lot less than a paid tool!

So, what can a good Google Analytics consultant help out with?

Tool implementation

It’s been said before, but having an expert around when you implement your tool is a must. If you have an “expert” in-house (emphasis on air quotes), make sure you have the real deal, or make an effort to find one. These tools can do a lot right out of the box, but someone who knows their way around can make Google Analytics (or any analytics tool, for that matter) shine like you never imagined, and will help you avoid mistakes that can pollute your data.

Most of what the consultant will focus on will have to do with your business. They should be asking you a lot of questions about how you make decisions in your organization, whether or not those decisions have anything to do with your web analytics tool. The consultant will take all of your business goals, internal procedures, organizational structure, and of course the decisions you discussed all into account in your implementation, and will show you how Google Analytics can help your organization identify issues, fix them, and improve your operational efficiency. And many times, people need data that a tool like Google Analytics may not be able to deliver. In those cases, your consultant should point you to supplementary tools and technologies that will help you with your specific need.

Train your people

Another thing a good expert will do for your organization is train your users, their bosses, and if interested, the top rungs of the ladder. Google Analytics is a very simple tool to get around, but it does require some education to be efficient and understand what you are looking at.

Training won’t cost an arm and a leg, but it isn’t free, either. Unfortunately for the world at large, there are very few people out there who really know what they are talking about when it comes to these tools and the practice of analytics, so it’s important to get an expert who has some sort of provable track record, references, or even Google’s own certification (although even that program has a few people who snuck in the back door!).

Take over for a while

Lastly, most analytics consultants and experts will provide some sort of a sourced analytics solution so you can get your internal program started right. While I don’t recommend going with an outsourced solution for the rest of your company’s lifespan, it’s a great way to get started on the right foot and see the true power of the tool, the ability to act on good data, the ability to stir great conversations among teams and with management, and witness good business process. Analytics experts have been around the block, and they are prepared to circumnavigate or bulldoze your company’s political problems where an internal team may not.

If you want to get it done right and then take the wheel later, this is a great start.

Where to go from here

This isn’t some sort of a sales pitch; it’s here so you know what you should expect and ask for in an engagement. While I’d love to help you out, my #1 goal is to get people using this powerful trade to its fullest, and that will only happen through some good, basic education. If you need a proven and experienced Google Analytics partner, absolutely give me a shout on twitter, and I’ll do what I can to help. I have a decent network of people I really trust and admire in the industry, so even if I can’t help out directly, I’ll do my best to get things rolling.
